Saved on this phone only, separately for each child. Mastered = at least 3 correct answers at Test level (heard only: no picture, no written word, first try), spaced: each in a different session, or after 8+ other words, or 10+ minutes later. Correct answers in a row in one sitting count once; a miss takes one away. Typing is tracked separately with the same rule, so copying never counts as reading. Prompt levels fade per word: Model (word shown + picture, 2 choices) → Lead (picture fades, 3 choices) → Test. A miss steps back one level; the right card is then highlighted so he still ends on success (counted as prompted).
A new level opens by itself when about two-thirds of the newest level's words are mastered. You can open one early.
Tap words to turn them on or off. Colours follow the Fitzgerald Key used on many AAC devices. Words he misses or is slow on come back sooner (spaced practice).
Cards to choose from (2 is easiest).
Picture help: "Auto" fades the picture as he reads a word right.
Show the word to match: "Auto" shows it only when the phone can't speak (sound off or no voice).
Auto: each word moves Model → Lead → Test as he gets it right first time, and steps back after a miss. Off: always Test level (your settings above still apply).
Faint "ghost" words in the empty boxes to match against.
Watch first: Sam and Pip act out the talk once before it's his turn (like video modelling).
Script help: "Auto fade" slowly greys out the ends of his reply buttons each time he finishes a talk, so he says more on his own, and pauses for him to say his line.
Every few games Sam does something silly for 2-3 seconds: gulps a gingerbread buddy (who pops back out giggling) or puffs cartoon fire that scorches a card, then fixes it with sparkles. Soft sounds, never blocks a tap, off when the phone asks for reduced motion.
No sound? Check the iPhone volume and the side ring/silent switch.
Saves every child's progress as a file you can send or keep (uses Share on iPhone).
